ABEOKUTA– The Chairman of the Correspondent Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ogun State Council, Comrade Rasaq Ayinla has lauded the initiative of the Freelance and Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (FIBAN) in rewarding men in uniforms as it celebrate the 45 years creation of Ogun State.
In a statement signed by the Chairman, and made available to The News Ville, he stated that the lofty move to honor the security operatives is a step in the right direction, saying “its commendable”
In his words, “Ogun State was not only created in 1976 by General Murtala Mohammed, then Head of State and the former Chief of General Staff, Supreme Military Council (SMC), Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, but also, there was an initial socio-economic development, solid and sustainable economic planning and discipline from the highly-criticised ‘Khaki boys’
“The first and second military administrators in the State, Lt. Col then, now Major General (retd) Seidu Balogun and Brigadier Eghagha, laid the solid and virile foundation and handed over a nascent but very vibrant Ogun State to first democratically-elected Governor Victor Bisi Onabanjo, who built on the lofty feats and accomplishments of the ‘Khaki boys’.
“Today, Ogun State is the largest industrial hub of the country. It’s always in the best five states of the federation, in terms of Internally-Generated Revenue, VAT and Excise Duty Remittances to Federation Accounts and all-time largest contributors of solid minerals to the gross domestic products, among many other feats.
“It is not a misplaced initiative to thank and honour men of Nigerian Military, Police and Para-Military, retired and serving, for being there for us at all times, not only in Ogun State, but also in all the states of the Federation and Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory”
Comrade Rasaq however assured FIBAN of full support from Journalists in the state as it carry out it’s activities during the celebration.
“We therefore, assure our sister media organisation, Freelance and Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (FIBAN), of our support from Ogun State Correspondents’ Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and by extension, the Ogun State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)” he said
