ABEOKUTA– The Chairman of the Kingmakers of Ibese Land, Chief Tajudeen Aremu has warned all protesters to steer clear of the community, saying that his people are known for peace.
Recall that some youths under the aegis of Yewa Youth Development Forum (YYDF) had planned to stage a peaceful protest against the existence of Dangote PLC in Ibese-Yewa, over an alleged breach of agreement with Yewa youths.
The group also said the planned protest is to force the cement company to start the implemention of the agreement reached with Yewa youths with immediate effect, saying failure to do so will result in the total shut down of the company’s production activities.
However, speaking with Newsmen, the Chairman of the Kingmakers/Traditional chiefs maintained that the protagonists of the protest are unknown to the community, warning that it will resist any form of violence in their community or whatever disguise.
“I asked all the youth leaders and the stakeholders about the rumour, they denied it. They said they don’t know anything about it. Those people doing that thing are doing it to cause crisis in Ibese.
“We warn them several times that nobody should do anything without the knowledge of the stakeholders.
“Meanwhile, when I saw the sticker, i called the president of the youth, i called him if he knows anything about it, and he said he doesn’t know anything about it, now i wonder, this people called themselves yewa youth, how should somebody come from another area to protest in our territory without our knowledge”, he queried
Speaking further, Chief Aremu said, “it means they want to cause crisis, put us into trouble and off they go, no we won’t accept that one, they should all steer clear of Ibese because we are law abiding people in here.
“We don’t have any problem with Dangote PLC. Nobody from nowhere can come here and cause crisis. We have got across to the government quarters and the security agents to report the rumour., if there is any element of such around our corridor they would be dealt with” he added
Mainwhile, Comrade Ajayi Yinus, the Youth Leader, Dangote Cement PLC, Ibese warned that no stranger should come from far distance to protest in ibese land, adding that they have never moved away from their town to do protest in another person’s place.
Speaking about the perceived breech of agreement with the community youths, Comrade Ajayi maintained Dangote has been doing a lot for the youths, adding that efforts are in top gear to make the company do more.
“There are procedure on those aspect of agreements. There are some other people who are in charge of that, if we need that, then we shall know how to do things accordingly.
“We Ibese people do not want any group. The 16 host communities that are represented as sisters host does not know these people behind the proposed protest so, they are unknown and faceless people”, he maintained.
