ABEOKUTA– More revelations has emerged on the possible cause of death of Victoria Ariyo, a corps member serving in Abeokuta South local government, who allegedly died of abortion complications.
Contrary to earlier indication that Ariyo died at home, it was however revealed that she actually died at an health facility at Oke-Aregba area of Abeokuta, in Ogun state.
Recall that the story of Ariyo became a national discourse when Olalekan Abbas, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) official linked to her demise was arraigned in court.
Abbas was arraigned on a two count charge bothering on conspiracy and attempt to procure abortion for the deceased. He was however granted bail, while case adjourned to 14th of April, 2026
However, in a twist of event, Abbas was re-arraigned on the 30th March, 2026 when the state government took over as prosecutor in the matter, and other count charge were added. Abbas was therefore remanded for 60 days pending investigation into the matter
The nurse, who was also indicted in the case, Kehinde Adesanya (Nee Akinsola), was equally arraigned on Thursday at the Magistrate Court in Isabo, Abeokuta, on four counts, including conspiracy, supplying drugs for unlawful abortion, and murder.
Police counsel Solomon Babalola told the court that the offences occurred between January and March 2026 at Ikereku area, Laderin, Abeokuta, and that the drugs allegedly supplied by Adesanya led to Ariyo’s death.
She was also remanded for 60 days at Ibara Correctional Centre, Abeokuta.
The state government had frown at the misrepresentation of the earlier charge in the public space, clarifying that his bail was granted based solely on the bailable nature of the offense.
The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN), added that the bail does not reflect the strength or quality of the evidences.
Speaking exclusively with The News Ville, Taiwo Akinsola, the nurse twin alleged that the deceased died at an health facility, but was shocked the hospital was not contacted before her sister’s unjust arrest and remand.
She claimed that her twin only interacted with the deceased when she visited her health facility at Korede Hospital, on the instructions of Abbas, which according to her lasted only few minutes.
Taiwo added that Kehinde who was earlier granted bail by the Police, was however re-arrested and arraigned for offences she allegedly didn’t commit.
“My twin only knew the deceased through Mr Abbas, who was introduced to her by her patient. The deceased came to the hospital with a clear intention to treat chronic infection.
“But on sighting her, my twin advised that she undertake a laboratory test, and see the doctor because she was looking pale, which she outrightly refused. That was their last and only contact.
“She eventually went to this particular hospital at Oke-Aregba where a surgery was allegedly done on her. The surgery was successful according to the doctor, but she eventually died of complications later at the same hospital.
“Why is the hospital not contacted. Why are they hiding the name of the hospital.
“One of the primary suspect, who is the deceased friend exonerated my twin at the Police headquarters, Eleweran. She also corroborated everything I said earlier”, she said
