ABEOKUTA– The Wakeelu Muslimeen, SouthWest, Edo, and Delta states, Sheikh Iskil Awwal, has cleared the air over the controversial end of fast dates issued by the Sultan of Sokoto and the Egba Muslim community.
Sheikh Sugar as popularly called stated that the dates, though not in tandem with the declaration from the Saudi Arabia, the world acclaimed Islam authority, should be considered as one.
He stated this while speaking with newsmen after the Eid-fitri prayer held at the Lantoro praying ground on Monday.
He noted that Muslim faithfuls who adhered to the orders from the Sultan and the Saudi Arabia and that of the Egba Muslim community have both adhered to their leaders in islam and as such not sinned against the religion.
“The issue of new month is something God in his mysterious ways have not allowed any man on earth to gave absolute powers over.
” We can see the new moon in Nigeria, whereas it’s not seen in Saudi Arabia, or in Ghana.
“But the issue of the new moon this year is such that Ramadan is supposed to be 30days. So therefore, for those that ended their fast yesterday and today, they have both adhered to the leading of islamic leaders. God will accept their prayers as act of ibadah.
” It is whatever our leaders in Islam says that we must adhered to. They are knowledgeable in the religion. The start of fast and end of fast is based on knowledge, so we must adhered strictly to their teachings”, he said
