ABEOKUTA— In order to free Ogun State from crime and criminality, the State Police command have arrested 31 suspects across the state for various offences ranging from cultism, vandalism, robbery and murder.
Parading the suspects at the Police Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, the state capital, the Commissioner of Police, CP Kenneth Ebrimson said the suspects were arrested through intensified crime fighting, intelligence gathering and community policing system.
Giving the breakdown of the arrests, CP Ebrimson said four members of a notorious cult group who have been terrorising residents of Ijebu Ode area of the state were taken into custody after a burst up at their hideout.
The suspects are Adewale Adeoye popularly known as “16”, Ibrahim Raimi, Bamidele Benzon, Bolaji Oluwole a.k.a ‘J Boy’ an ex-convict, Muritala Azeez and Jamiu Rasaq
Speaking to newsmen, one of the suspects, Adewale Adeoye confessed to being a notorious cultist and he had killed three people.
Also paraded are Taiwo Abiola, Abdullahi Musa and Monsur Abdullahi who are suspected armored cable thieves who were arrested by mobile policemen attached to Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Abeokuta Branch while patrolling the bank premises.
The policemen discovered that a large quantity of armored cable was cut and placed at a getaway place by the lower part of the fence and one Taiwo Abiola was with the cable inside the CBN premises. He was promptly arrested before he could jump the fence. On interrogation, he confessed to have been cutting the cable over a period of time.
CP Ebrimson said the command recovered 33 cartridges, 12 arms, 17 Cutlass, seven axes and one length of telecommunication cable from all the suspects.
The commissioner however solicited for citizens collaboration on information gathering, adding that the war on criminal will be taken to their door steps, stressing that there will be no room for criminality in the state.
