The Ogun State Organised Labour, Civil Society Situation Room Committee on Covid-19 today continue its sensitisation and monitoring exercise at the Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode Local government areas, visiting some major markets
The team, led by the state NLC chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Bankole while at the Oba S.K Adetona market, Oke Aje, Ijebu-Ode stated that the level of compliance with the health and safety instructions is not encouraging.
According to Comrade Bankole, “we are very dissatisfied with what we have seen here today. The people’s attitude towards adhering to simple instructions is very sad”
“How do you explain that almost everyone in this market don’t have their nosemarks, and those who have it, don’t make use of it”
“The health instructions is for our own good but it’s like we need more strict enforcement to sink the message into our people”
Reacting, the iyaloja, Alhaja Wuraola Kuforiji said the market leadership has replicated the compliance committee, adding that the sensitisation of the people has been continuously done, despite the low compliance.
She further reteraites that most customers refused to make use of the hand-washing buckets provided at the market entrance sighting some metaphysics outcome if they do.
She however advised that the state government should as a matter of urgency Increased it’s enforcement, not excluding arresting violators to serve as a warning to others
“The government taskforce should be empowered to arrest and prosecute violators so as to serve as deterrent to others, as we know that an average Nigerian don’t obey rules until it is strictly enforced’ she said
Earlier, the team also met with the transitional committee Chairmen of Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode LGAs, the Iyaloja Awolowo Market, sagamu, Mrs Esther Osilesi and other market executives, while soliciting for a joint concerted efforts at disseminating the information on Covid-19 to the nooks and crannies of the local governments.
