ABUJA– Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Afenifere for Collective Transformation (ACT) has canvassed for aspirants from the South East and North Central as sole candidates for the presidential election.
In a statement by the Director General of the group, Prince Tolu Ajayi, it lauded Pa. Ayo Adebanjo for acting beyond sectional, regional and tribal sentiments with respect to the forthcoming 2023 presidential election.
It added that the Afenifere leaders has acted in the spirit of a true statesman, upholding the principle of unity, equity and fairness not minding if this affects his root.
“Sincerity and patriotism have no colouration whatsoever. It is on this basis that Afenifere For Collective Transformation (ACT) led by the Director General, Prince Tolu Ajayi is commending our father and a true nationalist, Pa Ayo Adebanjo for acting beyond sectional, regional and tribal sentiments with respect to the coming 2023 presidential election.
“How best do one describe a nationalist than someone who look beyond personal and selfish interest but acts in the interest of all. Pa Ayo Adebanjo has acted in the spirit of a true statesman, upholding the principle of unity, equity and fairness not minding if this affects his root.
Ajayi reteraited that the South East, made up of majorly the Igbo extraction has been denied many opportunities in the country since the post civil war era, adding that “this is payback time for the region”.
“The present agitation for self determination by some youths of Igbo extraction was due to many years of neglect. IPOB was created to demand for the proper inclusion of the Igbos in the Nigeria nation.
“An agitation that should prompt the government to call for national conference to address the plight and demand of the people but rather termed an act of terrorism. IPOB agitation isn’t about cessation as it seems but about having a fair share of governance which to us isn’t a bad idea.
“To this end, Afenifere For Collective Transformation (ACT) is throwing her weight behind our leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo for standing for the truth and unity of our great country. We are advising any other aspirant from other regions aside Southeast and North Central to honourably step aside for now till after 2023.
“We appreciate and respect the opinion of those from our region Southwest, whom have shown desired interest in the 2023 presidency but we plead with them to follow the path of our leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo and allow either the southeast or North Central to take over as a mark of the strength in the unity of our diversity”, Ajayi added
