ABEOKUTA–The College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) has called on the Ogun state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to as a matter of urgency meet with it’s leadership to find an amicable solution to the lingering crisis at the Tai Solarin College of Education (TASCE), Omu Ijebu.
At a press conference held Thursday, at the NUJ Secretariat, Iwe Iroyin, Abeokuta, the National Vice President and South West Zonal Coordinator of the union, Comrade Olusegun Lana stated that the call out in the media space became necessary following un-reply correspondents sent to the office of the governor for some time.
He noted that COEASU intended to present a wells thought out ideas to the state government which the union believed will enable the state solve the lingering issues without incurring any extra financial burden on the his administration.
“Beyond correspondences, we are seriously seeking the governor’s audience to present a well-thought-out ideas that can solve the lingering issues. This is because we had in the past written letters that were probably not delivered to the appropriate desk, or not given the attention it deserved because such were not brought to his attention, or maybe they were lost in transit.
“If we have demands and also solutions to such demands in such a way that is so sensitive to the financial obligations of the state, we are of the strong opinion that Mr. Governor will listen to us; it is just a burden of having the political will to solve them and we do not have any ‘Plan B.
“strategic efforts” being deployed towards reclaiming the lost glory of the College, Lana listed those festering issues inherited by his administration to include: accumulation of unpaid fractions of salary, spanning a period of 76 months, unremitted pension contributions, as well as promotion without financial effects among several other demoralizing conditions.
“Inspired by our union’s belief in dialogue and amicable dispute resolution approaches, we have developed certain well-thought-out ideas to put on the table during dialogue with the governor towards addressing the liabilities inherited by his administration.
“As academics, we pursue agitations with decorum and due respect for constituted authorities. We do not only have demands, but we also have specific propositions that are sensitive to the financial constraints of the government which could provide a win-win solution to the age long challenges”, he noted
