ABEOKUTA- Point of Sale (PoS) owners operating in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital are on the verge of a collision with Abeokuta North Local Government Authority over alleged double taxation on their businesses.
The operators, who suddenly received a notice from one Lotwo Nigeria Enterprises, a consultant and revenue collector on behalf of the local said the alleged N2000 levies on them is an additional burden on their business, adding that they always pay VAT on all transactions.
One of the operators, Mr Cosmos Kunye said government, at all levels in the country have a way of killing small businesses with taxes, therefore Increasing unemployment.
He further reteraites that the Operators pays VAT on all transactions which is being shared by the Federal, State and Local government, adding that the new levy in question can be termed as double taxation.
“We pay lock up shop levy and other taxes to the local government, and yet they want to tax us again for using POS, which we have already paid VAT on”
“Who and who shares the 5% VAT we pay on every transactions? Is it not the same government at all levels? So, we will resist this inhuman tax from the local government”, Cosmos said
When The News Ville sort clarification from the Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Abeokuta North Local government, Prince Tunde Tella, he decline comments on the matter, while referring our reporter to meet with the HOLGA or Treasurer.
When our reporter asked further if he is not in the position to give further details, the chairman said, “See the HOLGA or Treasurer. Go to the LG headquarters at Akomoje to meet them. Thanks”
However, the Secretary, HR to the Local government refered our reporter back to the chairman when contacted.
