ABEOKUTA– The Ogun state Government has reiterated its commitment to key into the Federal Government Agricultural Policy on food security and nutrition strategy in order to address the problem of child malnutrition in the state.
The Commissioner of Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedina gave the assurance today at Oke Mosan, Abeokuta during a meeting with the Representative of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture.
According to the Commissioner, the current administration led by Governor Dapo Abiodun has already started the move through its value chain programme for improving on child nutrition in the state.
He maintained that one of the agenda of the current administration policies in agriculture is to drive the state economy through Private Public Partnership (PPP), initiative by producing sufficient nutritional food for the citizens in the state.
He further assures that the state Ministry of Agriculture would work closely with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture as part of its policies in making child nutrition deficiency a thing of the past.
The Commissioner therefore urged the Federal Government to support the state government in achieving its food security and sufficiency program
Speaking earlier, the Deputy Director, Head of Nutrition and Food Safety Division, Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Abuja, Dr. Oyeleke Rasaq said his team was in the state to encourage the state government to key into the ongoing Federal Government programs in order to reduce the rate of child malnutrition as part of the agricultural policies of the government.
In a remark, the SSA To the Minister of Agriculture on Food Nutrition, Mrs Adeyinka Onabolu pointed out that over 12 millions children in the country are suffering from malnutrition as a result of lack of good food.
