ABEOKUTA– The Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu has pledged his readiness to sponsor workshop for journalists in Ogun State.
Salisu made this known on Friday during the distribution of educational materials to students within his constituency at June 12 cultural centre, Kuto, Abeokuta.
He said the workshop became necessary as
to upgrade the capacity of practising journalists on multimedia skills.
Senator Salisu added that the workshop will empower them and make them relevant in the world, describing media as partner progress
He said “In 1859, the first newspaper in Nigeria was published in this place that am the representative in the senate.
“This is the only state in the federation that has produced two governors who are journalists, the first is Olabisi Onabanjo and the second is Chief Olusegun Osoba and I have come to iwe iroyin because in the course of my political journey either as Chief of Staff or Senator we have been worthy partners.
“on my honor i am going to organise seminar for the journalists and I will work with the NUJ leadership, we look at what we can do to assist you in profession, what are the challenges you faced particularly in an area when somebody has a 10 mega bite of data and he has also become a journalist, he publishes without the editorial judgment, he has no code of conduct how do you cope with your job in the area of social media.
“This is something we can do quickly, and whatever thing I can provide in time of working tools, i will after the workshop” he concluded
