ABEOKUTA– Maureen Ohakamike, a suspect linked to the theft of a mobile phone belonging to the Iyalode of yorubaland, Chief (Mrs) Alaba Lawson has been arrested in Lagos.
The suspect was arrested following a two months investigation and relentless search by the police, with the suspect being tracked to Lekki in Lagos.
Recall that Iyalode Alaba Lawson in December, 2020 had gone to a business centre in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital to take a passport photograph , when the phone was stolen.
The case was reported at the police thereafter, and in swift response the authorities commenced investigation.
The twenty year old female suspect was subsequently arrested in Lekki by the operatives of the Isheri-Magodo Division of the Nigeria Police, and was brought to the scene of the crime Tuesday in Abeokuta.
Speaking with newsmen in Abeokuta, the suspect confessed that she stole the phone when the victim left her bag on a seat while being attended to by the photographers of the business centre.
She further disclosed that shortly after she stole the phone, she immediately switched it off and hid it within the premises of the business centre, making it difficult to locate it, as the victim and staff of the business centre were busy searching for it.
Meanwhile, sources informed that, the police as at the time of filing this report have continued further interrogation on the suspect, assuring that on completion of investigation, she will be charged to court to face the law.
