ABEOKUTA-Ogun State Deputy Governor (DG), Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele has attributed insecurity in the country and moral decadence among youths to bad parenting which can best be addressed through religion, education, and proper upbringing.
Engr. Salako-Oyedele said this in Abeokuta at the 7th Ramadan Lecture organised by Nigeria Union of Journalists, Information chapel with the theme, ‘Islam and Youths of Today: Guiding our Future – Roles of Parents.
The Deputy Governor noted that the lecture was relevant, the lecture was relevant considering the recent events in the society and it is the responsibility of parents to bring up their children in a Godly manner, urging parents to work hand in hand with religious leaders and stakeholders to reduce the moral decadence among the youths in the society.
“Our responsibility as Muslim parents is to bring up our children as Muslims so that we can hand over the deeds of Islam to them, and when we are no more, the deeds are sustained, get stronger and better,” she said
In his address, the Chairman of the occasion and the Commissioner for Housing, Jagunmolu Jamiu Omoniyi, noted that moral decadence in our society has reached an alarming state, saying parents had failed in their responsibility to raise responsible children due to not devoting enough time to see to their upbringing.
In his remark, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Alhaji Waheed Odusile urged the Union to organise the lecture organised regularly, to bring sanity back to the society, imploring the Muslim faithful to put what they have learned to use in their day-to-day activities.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, congratulated NUJ information Chapel for the lecture, saying the topic of the lecture was apt as it would help to address some of the challenges in the country, as well as help change youths’ orientation towards immoral attitudes.
In his lecture, an Islamic scholar, Sheik Muyideen Bello, attributed the high level of insecurity and other social vices in the country to bad parenting, urging journalists to be objective in their reportage, as it would help in exposing bad behaviors and characters.
Earlier, the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) Information Chapel, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, said Ramadan is a time when Muslims around the world reflect upon the wisdom and guidance of Allah that comes with faith and a time when Muslims provide support to the needy and less privileged.
