ABEOKUTA–The Ogun state police command Monday paraded about 20 suspected robbers, kidnappers and other criminal elements at its headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta
Suspects paraded includes three teenagers, Sodiq Awokoya, Jimoh Rilwan and Odunayo Samson, all of whom were 18 years old for the gruesome murder of a commercial motorcyclist at Iperu in Ikenne Local Government area of the state, as well as five other kidnappers.
The kidnappers, whose identities were given as Muhammed Abubakar, Clinton Niche, Muhammed Bentua, Aminu Ibrahim, and Oseni Abiola were said to have operated at different locations, which included the abduction of one Olamilekan Olawale, whose Lexus Jeep 330 car was recovered from Oseni from where he was looking for a buyer.
Oseni alongside others, who are now at large, were said to have ambushed their victim, Olawale at Alapako axis of the Lagos – Ibadan expressway and demanded for the sum of N6 million as ransom.
Parading the suspects, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole said the arrest of the suspects, were part of the resolutions of the command under his watch to make the state one of the safest in Nigeria.
Bankole added that the command has activated all its tactical squads and Area Commands to go all out and make the state uncondusive for criminals and their sponsors.
He further stated that the parade was an evidence to the command’s resolution, which he said is already yielding positive results.
An official of a Micro Finance Bank in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, Olagoke Dare, who connived with another man to rob one of his company’s customers of the sum of N3 Million was also among the 20 suspected criminals paraded by the command.
Dare alongside his accomplice, Idowu Tunde allegedly connived together to dispossess one Mrs. Mary Agbejo of the sum of the money with a toy gun while leaving the premises of a commercial bank from where they had gone to withdraw the money.
Commenting on the arrest of the bank official, Bankole said investigations so far revealed that Dare set Hus bank’s customer up with his accomplice, Tunde, who used a toy gun ” to instill fear in her mind and further drove her to a point within the Abeokuta metropolis where she was to be dispossessed of the sum of N3 Million.
On interrogation, the suspect, Dare, who confessed to committing the crime, also explained that he was pushed to doing so because he wanted to use the money to offset a debt with a creditor, who was threatening a legal action against him.
