ABEOKUTA– The Association of Water Well Drilling Rig Owners and Practitioners (AWDROP) will on Friday, the 22nd of October, 2021 Inaugurates it’s Ogun State Chapter of the Association.
Speaking at a courtesy visit to the office of the Special Adviser on Environment, the State Chairman of the Association, Engr. Wole Adekoya said the inauguration which will have a keynote address is themed “Ground Water Abstractions, Panacea To Cholera Epidemic Prevention.
Engr. Adekoya maintained that there is need for proper regulation of the borehole Industry, adding that unprofessional drilling has further damaged the ground layers.
He noted that in view of the hazardous health risk associated with pollutants and contaminants in ground water resources, resulting from flooding and borehole drilling inefficiencies, it has become pertinent that water from all boreholes should undergo proper laboratory analysis to determine their qualities as specified by WHO standards for drinking water before use.
“AWDROP as an organization want to partner with governments at all levels in order to establish National Water Supply Incidence Management Team (NWSIMT) in order to restore, rehabilitate and rejuvenate all dysfunctional boreholes facilities in endemic areas of Nigeria”, he added
In his remark, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Ola Oresanya lauded the association for ensuring that the Ogun citizens enjoy quality water, adding that government is ready to partner in the area of regulation, with OGEPA as leading agency.
Oresanya added that although government cannot stop any citizen from drilling borehole, it is however necessary to regulate the activities of quacks through policies that will safeguard the lives of its citizens.
Sanitarian Akintola, a Deputy Director Health Services, in Obafemi-Owode LGA is expected to be the keynote speaker at the Ogun state Inauguration billed for the Indices Hotel, Abeokuta.
