ILARO– The distribution of 102 transformers donated by Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, a.k.a Yayi, representing Ogun West Senatorial District, to mark his 56th birthday has sparked tension in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area over allegations of diversion.
Controversy erupted when the transformer allocated to Egbeda Elefun of Elefun Ward, a community with over 500 residents, was allegedly diverted by Hon. Mustapha Fatai, a.k.a Eruobodo, a former caretaker chairman of Obafemi Owode Local Government.
The incident occurred on Sunday at Agunloye Empire Field, Ilaro, during the official distribution ceremony.
Eyewitnesses accused Hon. Fatai of collecting T-shirts, tags, and allocation documents meant for Elefun Community residents, triggering a heated confrontation and tense moments before the documents were retrieved and returned to the Elefun community chairman.
The Chairman of Elefun Community, Alhaji Agboola Musa, who spoke with our reporter condemned the development, describing it as “unbecoming, unjust, and disappointing.”
He wondered how Hon. Fatai could exchange what rightfully belonged to the Elefun people for reasons best known to him.
“This is a man with declining electoral value due to the manner with which he is causing dissafection among community members,” Musa said.
“Elefun is a recognized ward with a polling unit in Obafemi Owode Local Government, featuring a primary school and a health center.
” It’s unthinkable to sideline over 500 residents and divert what’s been allocated to the community following the very compassion from the Distinguished Senator.
“Eruobodo’s actions are consistent with his declining electoral value, stemming from his manipulative and mismanaged approach to the people, causing dissatisfaction and dissafection among electorates and communities”, he said
A political stalwart, who preferred anonymity, expressed displeasure over the alleged fraudulent act and corruption perpetrated by Eruobodo, warning it could misinterpret Senator YAYI’s good intentions.
He advised political leaders to call Eruobodo to order to prevent backlash. “If he truly had electoral value, he would never do such a thing, especially with the 2027 election approaching,” he added
As of press time, efforts to reach Hon. Fatai for his reaction were unsuccessful, as he neither replied to this reporter’s call and WhatsApp messages
