AYETORO– In its bid to support and enhance food production in the state, Yewa North Local Government has commenced registration of small scale farmers.
The registration commenced on December 10, 2024 and is proposed to end on January 31st, 2025 which will enhance proper planning ahead of the distribution scheduled for a later date as the raining season approaches.
Speaking with newsmen at the just concluded Adire Dapo Kampala training which over a thousand residents of Yewa North benefited,the Local Government Chairman, Hon Olusola Akinbode Ph.D stated that the program is fashioned in line with the H.E Prince Dapo Abiodun CON ISEYA mantra on food sufficiency in the state
He stated that the Local Government is poised to be the food basket of the state, adding that with the support from the State Government, it will assist in reducing poverty and unemployment.
“This is in testament to our campaign promise as food production and alleviation of poverty is assured”
“The registration has been open since December, and will close soon. Our people should take advantage of this program in anticipation of the distribution of the seedlings as we approach the raining season.
“The registration timeframe is expected to assist both the local government and beneficiaries in planning, clearing their lands as cash crops are not always planted on rented land”, he added
Amongst seedlings expected for free distribution includes, cocoa, oil palm and cashew seeds.
