ABEOKUTA– The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said it will support the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
The National Vice Chairman (Southwest) of the party, Hon. Kamorudeen Ajisafe stated this, Monday, while presenting the party’s flag to Bolarinwa Oduwole as the party flag bearer in the August 16th Remo federal constituency bye-election.
Ajisafe added that the South West PDP has unanimously agreed to support the President’s reelection because he is of the South-West extraction.
The party described President Tinubu as the ‘father of the nation’, hence the need to ensure his return to office in 2027 till 2031.
“Having supported former President Muhammadu Buhari for 8 years, it is expedient to support one of our own for his 8years. This is beyond party lines, it is a natural thing to do”, he said
In his remarks, the 2023 governorship candidate of the party in Ogun state, Hon. Ladi Adebutu noted that while the party in not opposed to the return of President Tinubu in 2027, the party is however opposed to bad governance in Ogun state.
“We are not opposed to the reelection of our President in 2027, we will fully support him but the provisio is that he allows a free, fair and credible elections in Ogun state, starting from this bye-election. We are all his children”, he added
The State Chairman of the party, Hon. Abayomi Tella, while inaugurating the 55-man campaign council urged party faithful to come out enmasse, defend their votes, and not succumb to intimidation and harrrasment throughout the electoral process.
“We are not going to submit to any harassment or intimidation on Saturday. The election is a win win for the party. This constituency is our stronghold and this was evident in the outcome of the 2023 election”, he charged
Meanwhile, the candidate of the party, Bolarinwa Oluwole stressed that the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), should honor the demise of its former legislator, Hon. Adewunmi Onanuga by providing a level playing field for all candidates, irrespective of party affiliations.
Hon. Adewunmi Onanuga, the former Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, passed on January, 2025 paving the way for a bye-election scheduled for 16th August, 2025.
