.ABEOKUTA– The Ogun state chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), have held its 2025 Ramadan lecture and Iftar programme.
In her welcome address, the chairperson of the association, Alhaja Sekinat Salam describes Ramadan as a sacred period of spiritual reflection, fasting, and acts of charity, adding that its spiritual rejuvenation, and time to reconnect with the Creator should re-evaluate human lives.
“As we observe the fasting, let us remember the importance of tolerance. Ramadan teaches us to be patient, to endure hardships, and to appreciate the blessings we have.
“In a world filled with diversity, tolerance is essential for peaceful coexistence. Let us learn to respect each other’s differences, to listen to each other’s perspectives, and to embrace our unique experiences.
“As journalists, we recognize the importance of Ramadan in promoting peace, tolerance, and understanding. In a world filled with conflicts and divisions, Ramadan reminds us of the importance of compassion, forgiveness, and unity.
“As women journalists, we are committed to amplifying the voices of marginalized communities, including women and children who are often the most affected by poverty, inequality, and social injustice.
Speaking on the lecture theme, ” The Role Of Women In advancing Modest Society Amidst Social Vices; Islamic Perspectives “, the Tutor at the Daarus-Shaokany Arabic and Islamic Studies Academy, Obantoko Abeokuta, Alhaji Roqeeb Bello describe women as partners in societal development saying that Islam places women at the core of societal preservation, moral rectification, and spiritual enlightenment.
He added that the media shapes public perception and morality, therefore it must help to establishing media platforms grounded in Islamic ethics, challenging false portrayals of Muslim women in global media, which will inturn create a modest society for the world.
“Women are the architects of moral transformation. By embracing Islamic
teachings, intellectual leadership, and social activism, women can reshape
society, eliminate vices, and cultivate a future of faith and virtue”, he added
