ABEOKUTA– Oba Joshua Aminu Amusa, Olu of Idanyin, in Agbara area of Ado-odo/Ota Local Government of Ogun State has been dragged before an Ota High Court by some indigenes of the town challenging his eligibility to the stool.
The people, claiming right to the Obaship stool in a Suit No: HCT/517/2020 are praying the High Court sitting in Ota Judicial Division, Ota, Ogun State to disqualify Oba Amusa who was alleged to have been ‘imposed’ as the ‘Oba of Idanyin’ over the good and law-abiding indigenes of Idanyin.
According to the suit document, the 1st Claimant is the current regent of Idanyin Community since 2009 and has been presiding over Idanyin communal matter pending his appointment of a substantive Baale.
The claimants further averred that the grounds of their refusal and rejection of the 1st defendant’s candidacy as the Oba of Idanyin was premised on the following that he is not an indigene of Idanyin Community.
It also added that he does not belong to any Ruling House in Idanyin, therefore he is a complete stranger to Idanyin Chieftaincy stool
It was averred in the court document made available to journalists that, “the descendants of Oyela who was the progenitor and founder of Idanyin were divided into four ruling houses; Ashade Ogbo, Obanla Amuni, Okedeyi, and Idah. That Oba Aminu Amusa does not belong to any of the four ruling houses”.
Meanwhile the defendant in the case, Oba Joshua Aminu Amusa have said he is qualified to be installed as king in Idanyin.
“I am not a stranger in Idanyin as averred by the claimants in the case. Some of the claimants in this case signed letter for my nomination at the local government.
However, as the case is in court, let wait and see the outcome”, he told newsmen
The court on Monday adjourned hearing of the matter to 4th of February, 2021.
