The Iyalode of Yorubaland, Chief (Mrs) Alaba Lawson has distributed stimulus package to the Lepers Colony in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital.
The stimulus package which includes various items such as food, cash and clothes for the inmates was part of her contributions as palliative measure in view of the lockdown in the fight against coronavirus in the state.
Iyalode, similarly has commenced the renovation of some buildings in the colony, which has reached completion stage, adding that it will be handed over in due course
Chief Lawson also promise to buy working tools for artisans amongst the lepers, adding that she is commited to their welfare as part of her social responsibility.
Speaking earlier, the leader of the lepers colony, Mr. John Ojoawo said Iyalode has remain a source of joy for the inmates, adding that, the palliatives she brought in the wake of the coronavirus lockdown is not new or news to them.
Ojoawo affirmed that the gestures have remained regular benefits for them coming from the Iyalode, and expressed profuse appreciation for considering them again as the lockdown against coronavirus lasted.
“Iyalode has been a source of joy for us. She even facilitates many donors for us here, and we remain grateful to her and pray that God will continue to bless and enrich her. She is a woman who has passion for welfare of others”, he stated.
A female inmate, Falilat Odunawo while speaking pointed out that Chief Lawson is a good mother, who is always with them at the colony to make them happy all time, adding that she would not be forgotten for her gestures.
“She is a good mother, always with us and what she is doing today is not strange to us, she has always been with us at all time, even attimes she visit us unnoticed and before leaving put smiles on our faces. I pray that God will continue to bless him”, she said
