ABEOKUTA– Commuters plying the Abeokuta-Sagamu expressway were left in a sorry state on Saturday as the All Progressives Congress (APC) inaugurates the Campaign Council and commissioning of the Ogun State Campaign Secretariat for the 2023 general elections.
The event which is holding at the new secretariat opposite the Governor’s office Oke- Mosan, was also meant to inaugurates the campaign committee for the reelection of the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun
When our correspondent got to the venue at about 11:00am, the expressway had become impassable as the outbound and inbound motorists were seen scrambling for alternative routes.
Motorists outbound Abeokuta couldn’t have an headway from the NNPC junction, while those coming from Sagamu had a standstill up to the mechanic village.
Speaking with The News Ville, a commuter simply identify as ‘Ibadan’ cast aspersions on the organisers of the campaign, saying that it’s high insensitivity to the plights of the citizens.
He added that citizens should not be made to go through hardship because of political party’s campaign, saying that it will further aggravates the anger in the country.
“How can a government, who swore to make life easy for citizens do this kind of a thing, on a Saturday morning. Making us go through difficult terrain because of their own campaign.
“This is a very high sense of irresponsibility and insensitivity to the plights of citizens who are already angered by their policies” he stressed
Another motorists who pleaded anonymity for being a civil servant in the the state, bemoan the stress citizens are made to go through before navigating to their respective locations.
She however advises motorists to look for alternative routes saying that “if by now that the program has not started, we are going through bush tracks to get to our destinations, how much more when the governor arrives and the whole place is locked down”
“So, if you know you are going to Sagamu or coming from Sagamu, try and look for an alternative route before you get to the NNPC or Immigration office axis respectively”, she added.
