ABUJA– The Honourable Minister for FCT Abuja , Nelson Wike has been called by the FCT golf association to give the game right audience by throw its weight behind development of the game and lead them to the public sponsorship to keep all the newly discovered young skills medalists for the FCT.
Leading the voice of the association by the association Chairman , Mr. Akabom Enebong , at Abeokuta Golf Club in the State Capital of Ogun State, the venue for golf championship 22nd National Sports Festival , tagged Gateway Games 2024 , during the presentation of awards and medals for the winners.
Mr. Akabom Enebong , noted that the right audience and good words of the FCT minister Hon. Nylon Wike will go along way , chang in the face of golf in the area from local golf to well accepted international form of play through the government intervention and taking the golf to cooperate organization, Captains and Managing Director ( MDs) if all the industries operating at FCT support for the game as an additional incomes for the FCT through the tourism and entertainment aspects of it.
He commended efforts of the minister for all his wonderful support that can not be over emphasize attributed to there successful performance at the Gateway Games 2024 golf Championship with 7 good medals in golf comprised 2 gold medals , 4 silvers medals and 1 bronze medal saying the minister still need to do more with the aiming to transform FCT to home of golf in Nigeria as tourism business.
FCT golf association Chairman said the association said its been wonderful since he took over the association leadership last year August 2023 with three agenda and very happy that one has been achieved by ensures they participate in the Sport Festival and performed well and preparing some of them for Olympic, taking the golf to schools in FCT to catch them young into golf as academy golf and since it is an open secret to all that golf could be used as tourism business to generate income for the government.
His words ” I want to specially thank my Hon.Minister for FCT Nelson Wike for all the support given to team Abuja that makes it possible to take part in this 22nd National Sports Festival nevertheless we needed his urgent attentions and throw its weight behind the game of golf through his right audience and kind words to lead them as the head of FCT , adding that golf is a struggling game that requires alot of support with the intentions to embarking on corporate marketing golf across the FCT among the Captain and Captain’s of industry .
We’re also set to start marketing our athletes to them as their products ambassadors that will be on there bill boards and signed post so the younger ones can be looking up them as a role model.”
FCT golf association Chairman also urged the Minister to help them established FCT Sports Commission and let the sport stand alone in order to get right attentions that is deserve rather than hiding it under the Ministry of Youth and just like the way Presidency created as best strategy to develop sports generally and appreciate all those that is working with him to make it possible to be at the festival Muktor Galadima, Sola Adetiba , Mathieu Gunat , Julius Fadairo and Farifa Wada.
He appreciates the General Manager of National Sports Commission, Hon. Chief Bukkola Olopade and Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun , for hosting the game with the conducive facility environment that made it memorable to all participants as an eyes openers to other state, appealing to the governor of Ogun State to support the game of golf development and the state is one of the luckiest state in the country with highest potential in golf.
*Gateway Games 2024: Team FCT Golf Shines with 8 Medals, Seeks Increased Support from Minister*
Abuja, Nigeria – The Federal Capital Territory Golf Association has commended the impressive performance of its golfers at the ongoing 22nd National Sports Festival Games in Ogun State, where they won a total of 8 medals, including 2 gold, 4 silver, and 1 bronze, and 1 other medal.
The association’s Chairman, Mr. Akabom Enebong, made the disclosure during the presentation of awards and medals to the winners of the golf games at the Abeokuta Golf Club. While expressing gratitude to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for the support given so far, Enebong emphasized the need for more support to consolidate on the achievement and take golf in the FCT to the next level.
“We are grateful for the Minister’s support, but we need more to actualize our aim of transforming the FCT into a hub for golf tourism and business in Nigeria,” Enebong said. “With the right support, we can attract public and corporate sponsorship, develop our young golfers, and take golf in the FCT to international standards.”
The association’s chairman highlighted the potential of golf to generate income for the government through tourism and entertainment. He also commended the efforts of the Minister and expressed satisfaction with the Board’s performance since its inception in September 2024.
Enebong further advocated for the establishment of the FCT Sports Commission to oversee sports development in the territory, replicating the National Sports Commission. He appreciated the support of key stakeholders, including the General Manager of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Chief Bukkola Olopade, and the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun.
The FCT Golf Association is poised to market its athletes to the corporate world as product ambassadors and explore opportunities for product endorsement. With the Minister’s continued support, the association aims to nurture young golfers and promote golf development in the FCT.
