ABEOKUTA — The Allied People’s Movement (APM) candidate for Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, Hon. Micky Kazzim has reteirated that the act of lawmaking should be a preserve for experienced and political bigwigs, and not for freshers.
Kazzim made this known while featuring on a popular Yoruba radio program, ‘Oju Abe’ on Splash 106.7 FM in Abeokuta, monitored by our correspondent
According to Micky, National Assembly which comprises of both House of Representatives and the Senate is not a place for “on the job trainings”, adding that experience counts in quality representation and delivery.
He noted that being novice to the workings of legislation is the bane of constituency lagging behind, saying that some legislators are seen “sleeping or saying I concur”, during plenary, instead of making legislative contribution to better the lots of their voters and constituents.
“Lawmaking is supposed to be the job for experienced and hard-working legislators with track records of democratic achievements and success stories.
“Legislators should not be seen to have overstayed in the assembly as long as the electorates can allude to his performance in terms of infrastructural facilitations and legislative prowess”, he added
Micky Kazzim cited United States of America and United Kingdom success stories where Congressmen and Members of Parliament in the respective countries have stayed or reelected for along, as the voters wishes are for them to gather enough knowledge and experience.
He therefore advised, Abeokuta South Federal Constituency’s electorates to emulate such gesture, by voting experienced legislators who have over the years gathered more than enough knowledge needed for efficient and effective legislation at the 2023 general elections.
