ABEOKUTA– The Egba Legacy Network (ELN) on Saturday has inducted new members into its fold, just as it unveils several projects for the socio-economic development of Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.
The event which was held at the mini marquee of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) saw an array of the creme de la creme of Egba sons and daughters in attendance.
Speaking with newsmen on the sideline of the event, the Chairman of the group, Osi Apagunpote of Egbaland, Chief Lai Labode Jr. stated that the group was formed to reinvent and develop Egbaland, Abeokuta and Ogun state as a whole.
He disclosed that one of the hallmarks of Egba Legacy Network is collaboration, declaring that the Networks is planning a major collaboration with Egba Club for the interest of Egbaland.
“A key part of our project is to try to re-connect those who are coming behind us to us now, a lot of them have already disconnected, and one of the things we are doing right now at the exco level, we just have a new committee on bringing the younger ones to join Network, so they can also bring people behind them, and of course traditional institutions is also important to us as well, we believe that there are more Egba can offer Nigeria, and Africa at large.
“Our plans is not just a plan we are working toward it, this project cost us our passion not our money, once we are united, let me tell you when we said a new Era of young leadership has come, it has already come and that Egba Legacy Network”, he said.
Also speaking, former Nigerian Envoy to the United Kingdom, Amb Sarafa Tunji Ishola lauded the formation of the group, saying that it is soothing to know that the future of Egba Kingdom is in safe hands.
He acknowledged that the group serves as the bridge between the historical past and the future of Egba kingdom, while encouraging the group to strengthen the culture and tradition of Egba to become the highest peak of focus in Africa.
One of the new inductees, Hon. Solomon Enilolobo appreciate his acceptance into the group, saying that he will along with others contribute their quota to develop the group and Egbaland.
Highlight of the event was the award presentation to notable members of the group, including the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Chief Bukola Olopade, Chairman, Abeokuta North Local Government, Lanre Oyegbola, and former caretaker chairman of Abeokuta South, Ayo
