ABEOKUTA– The Conference of Opposition Political Parties (COPP) have passed a vote of confidence on the Ogun state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, saying that the state under his administration has witness tremendous improvement.
The group made this know on Monday while briefing newsmen at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) secretariat Iwe Iroyin Oke Ilewo Abeokuta.
Briefing newsmen, the convener of the group, Otunba Femi Sholuade chronicles the achievements of the Dapo Abiodun administration which he said is not limited to road construction, health sector reforms amongst others.
“Having gone round the 20 Local Governments, as well as, paid visits to different locations where there are ongoing projects we are however persuaded that the present administration in Ogun State under the able leadership of Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR, has within the last 31 months added value to the development of Ogun State in the different areas.
“As critical stakeholders and most importantly opposition parties, our primary role is to keep the government on her toes and ensure that we appraise and criticize reasonably.
“On this note, we wish to state unequivocally, that the Governor of Ogun State has performed exceedingly well in the following sectors”, Sholuade said.
Highlighting Abiodun’s achievement in the education sector, Sholuade stated that, “In March, 2021, the Ogun State Government commenced the Ogun State Teaching Experience Acquisition Channel (Ogun TEACh), a paying special intervention two-year scheme set up to fill the existing vacancies in the public primary and secondary schools as well as technical colleges in the State.
“In what has been popular tagged the “Yellow Roof Revolution,” the Ogun State Government within the past two years has embarked on a massive overhaul of the face of education in the State. Structure erected in different schools across the State’s 20 LGAs include classrooms, hostels, toilets, offices, stores and equipped e-libraries/computer rooms”
These, he said are visible and verifiable in almost all public primary and secondary schools, even as the project is ongoing, adding that at the same time, 570 schools have been rehabilitated (with reconstruction, reinforcement and reroofing) till date across Ogun State within the period under review.
“These schools include even the Emeritus Ogunlesi Model School in Sagamu, the construction of which was left half done by the last administration as at May 29, 2019.
“On 22nd April, 2021, Governor Abiodun gave special recognition to Ms Faith Odunsi and Mr Oladimeji Shotunde, amongst others. Odunsi had topped the Global Open Mathematics Competition, as Shotunde emerged Best Graduating Student of the Lagos State University, LASU. While the State Government launched an endowment fund seeded with 5million Naira for Ms Odunsi, it awarded Mr Shotunde a 2-bedroom bungalow and a 2million Naira cash prize, as 32 other teachers and students got various other prizes”, he added
In the housing sector, Sholuade stated that Abiodun giants stride has been felt in all the 3 Senatorial districts, saying that the planned extension is also being awaited to further boost the demands of the people for affordable Housing.
“We must not fail to state that the sales of the houses is not based on man knows man”, he emphasized
In the health Sector, he stated that Abiodun through the covid-19 pandemic has proven to be a good manager of resources, stressing that this underscore the high rating the state achieved in the fight against the dreaded disease.
Sholuade also believe the administration’s achievements in road construction, agriculture and others is enviable, calling on the good people of the state to support the government to achieve more.
