The Ogun State Government this week had announced the return of water supply to major areas in the metropolis after several months of lack.
It added that the Arakanga water scheme that was connected to all part of the state stopped working which led to the lack of running water in the metropolis.
The restoration of water in the metropolis was greeted with a sense of satisfaction and promise fulfilment on the part of the Dapo Abiodun’s led administration.
However, when the news ville went to town to access the level of reception of the restoration, it discovered that though water was running at some parts of the metropolis, some parts had to resort to fetching water at bursted pipes around their vicinities.
The News Ville reports that around Quarry Road, by APTECH, water was seen flowing freely in the gutter from a bursted pipe while spreading across the road as people were seen trying to fill their buckets.
Also at the NUJ Secretariat, before the Deputy Governor’s official residence, another bursted pipe was discovered running water freely into the gutter and adjourning road as the same was seen around Alogi in Obantoko area of the state.
The waste accosted with these burst pipes calls for immediate action from the appropriate ministry and agency, as the lost water will not allow the populace to enjoy the full compliments of the water restoration.
Also the attended health implications of getting water from a gutter can only be imagined as it’s snowball could generate into an epidemic if its not nip in the bud early.
A respondent who prefer to speak in anonymity said the pipes has been faulty even before the water stopped running and all efforts to get the engineers to get it fixed fell on deaf hears.
“We tried to get them to fix the pipes but they keep telling us they will come soon. Nobody showed up till now”
“So when the water was restored, the leaked pipe gave way so instead of us fetching the water at home, we ended up get the water inside the gutters”
When contacted for response, the Public Relation officer of Ogun State Water Corporation said the management is aware of the fact that such problems may have arise owing to the lack of water supply experienced in the metropolis for some months.
He however assures that by the coming week, the management will mobilise it’s men to all affected areas adding that it will also use the opportunity to brief the press about the activities of the corporation.
