ABEOKUTA– The crisis rocking the vacant Oluwo position in Ijeja-Land yesterday took another ‘abominable’ dimension as the Olorogun Council of Chief installed yet another Oluwo for the town.
Recall that just recently, Chief Aremu Bamgboye, a popular music promoter was installed into same position by the Oluwo Agbein, Chief Solomon Atanda Odesola who said he carried out the installation on the instructions of the paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo.
Further findings from a recent statement from the palace of the Alake indicate that it is the prerogative of the Ogbonis and not that of the Olorogun, Parakoyi, or any other group, in the system of the township to participate on the emergence of a person for the position of the Apex Chieftain in that locality.
In his submission in the statement, the Odofin of Ijeja, Chief Sunday Oluwole, stated that in line with the Alake’s directives after the demise of the previous Oluwo, a new Oluwo should be chosen through the approved traditional system. He said that the Ologbonis met and carried out the exercise accordingly.
When our reporter sort clarification from the Oluwo of Agbein on the latest development, he said whatever happened yesterday at Ijeja was a taboo and abomination, adding that an Oluwo cannot be installed twice.
“Like I told you before now, I am the only qualified Chief to install any Oluwo in Ijeja. This, I have done by the installation of Chief Aremu Bamgboye, on the instructions of our paramount ruler, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Aremu Gbadebo”
“So, for any other person to be installed outside of what I have done is smelling doom for such people. Thank God, I cannot be a partaker of such abominable act”
“This is the reason if you check those that graced their fake installation yesterday, you will never see any Ogboni there. None of my Chiefs went there because they know the repercaution of such act”
“Is it even the duty of the Oloroguns to install an Oluwo? You can see their desperation” This is a bad omen on the town and if care is not taken, I hope the regrettable don’t happen”
