ABEOKUTA– Burglars have invaded the Senior Civil Servants estate located at Ayerose community of Obafemi Owode local government area of Ogun state, while carting away with properties worth millions of naira.
Conducting newsmen round the estate on Thursday, the State Chairman of the association, Comrade Isa Olude lament that despite the huge investment on the estate, lack of complimentary amenities has set back its full development.
He noted that the lack of security and deplorable road conditions have forced many residents to abandon their homes in search of safer areas.
“There are some security situations here, I am touched this morning. The situation here is not palatable because the concept has been somehow defeated and members are now moving because of insecurity of lives and property here”.
“The government has helped in constructing three basic culverts along the road and approved the installation of solar lights, but we need more.
“As a senior civil servant, we have considered it necessary to have an estate befitting that can probably be that one that can stand the test of time for civil and senior civil servants. As my colleagues have said, we have 51 buildings here, and what we have was from savings of members”.
” We want to appeal to the government, particularly Amotekun, so please provide security for the estate, we want both afternoon and night parades and security of the estate so that senior civil servant can have a rest of sleep and prepare for their work daily”, Olude said
The Estate’s President, Sunday Adebiyi revealed that 15 houses have been burgled, with the poor road conditions being a significant contributor to the robberies.
“As I said, about 15 houses were affected. Virtually all the 15 houses are houses that are not occupied and they’re not occupied because of the situation of the road. There are some of them oved out because of the cost of maintaining the vehicle
” Our vehicles get spoilt virtually every week. We patronize the mechanic. So if we can get the support of the government in putting in place the road so that it will minimize our cost, I think It will be more appreciated”
