Manchester United have signed former Watford striker Odion Ighalo from Shanghai Shenhua on loan until the end of the season despite the Novel Corona-Virus that has affected major part of China.
Ighalo, who is still in China but is expected to fly to the UK in the next few days, scored 39 goals in 99 matches for Watford between 2014 and 2017.
He then moved to the Chinese Super League, first with Changchun Yatai. After two seasons he moved to Shanghai Shenhua and has scored 10 times in 19 games.
His form for his country has been eye-catching, finishing as top scorer in African Cup of Nations qualifying with seven goals, before scoring five at the tournament during the summer.
According to the report, United will pay a third of Ighalo’s wages during his time at Old Trafford.
This works out at £100,000 a week. Ighalo, who has just under two years left on his contract with Chinese Super League outfit Shanghai Shenhua, is currently earning an astronomical £300,000-a-week.
United will also pay Shanghai Shenhua a loan fee of between £2 million and £4 million.
Confirmed reports has it that United have reached an agreement with Ighalo, who is still in China at the time of writing, over personal terms.
It’s understood that United will also have an option to sign Ighalo on a permanent deal at the end of his loan.
While Ighalo wouldn’t have been top of United fans’ lists prior to the January transfer window, many of them will be relived that a striker is arriving to ease the burden on Martial and Greenwood.
