ABEOKUTA — The President of Remo Stars Football Club, Otunba Kunle Soname has stated that for the country to enjoy the full benefits of sports, government at all levels must be ready to take the back sit.
Soname stated this while rewarding coaches, players, supporters club and management team of the club for its qualification for the CAF Champions League.
He added that if development is not structured, the success will be intermittent, saying that the successes recorded by Remo Stars over time is due to diligent developmental structure put in place.
“for me, to be honest, until that happens, we’re not going to see the kind of development we crave or desire in this country. We need to have at least out of the 20 primary teams, we need to have at least 10 of them privately owned, then, it is at that time, that economic development we’re seeking can come.
“To be honest, it is what needs to happen. But can it happen in the next two, three or five years? I can’t see it happening for now. But that is what we need. For private people to take ownership of the government clubs, but it must be private participation in the league for you to really develop and blossom”, he noted
He therefore, gave out the sum of N20million to the Players and additional N5million to the coaching and medical crew of the team.
The supporters club also went home with the sum of N1.5million naira while the media crew were also rewarded with the sum of N1.5million naira.
Soname who hinged the success of the club on hard work and structured football development, saying that “What propelled us to this level is hard work and structured development. If a development is not structured, you will keep having bits and pieces of successes. But if the structure is developed, this is the kind of thing you see. You see development back to back because it is structured.”
