ABEOKUTA– The Asiwaju of Orile-Imo in Obafemi-Owode Local Government area of Ogun State, Chief Olakunle Olalekan has been awarded the Trailblazer Award for his contribution to the development of his community, and environs
The community leader was also decorated as the Patron of the Young Media Practitioners of Nigeria (YOMPON), Ogun State Chapter.
Accepting the Award, Chief Olakunle Olalekan commended the association for its focus on grassroots development and recognition for the award.
“I am delighted and excited by this honour by this group of young dynamic journalists.
“The news of this award conferment came to me as a surprise because as a village man, I never imagine myself being consider for this honour.
“This award has indeed reshapen my philosophy about humanity and will further influence my decision to give back to the downtrodden and my immediate community.
“I want to assure you all, that I will not take this award for granted and I will continue to do more for my people and everybody me.”
Speaking earlier, the Ogun State Chairman of the association, Comrade Saheed Adeola noted that the choice of the awardee was through a painstaking effort, adding that his contribution towards the development of his villages cannot be over-emphasized.
Adeola further noted that the International breweries and many Chinese companies situated in the community were facilitated by the recipient.
“Asiwaju sir, following your contributions towards bringing change to the atmosphere of Orile-Imo community in Obafemi Owode Local Government and the entire Ogun state, the Young Media Practitioners of Nigeria (YOMPON), Ogun state chapter wishes to honour you with “Trailblazer Award”.
“The Trailblazer Award recognizes individual who identified and implemented innovative changes that positively affected their community.
“Looking at how you have impacted in your immediate community and the plethora of people that have benefitted from your kind gesture, this association believes that honouring you with the Trailblazer Award is one out of few ways to appreciate and commend you for your service to humanity”, he added
He therefore, urged other philanthropists in the society to take a cue from the humanitarian gesture of High Chief Olakunle.
Present at the decoration includes, the National President of the Association, Comrade Michael Azeez-Ogunsiji, South West Coordinator, Comrade Hakeem Adegbenro and other state executives of the association.
Others includes, the Baales of the villages making up the community, youth leaders and captain of industries who are sons and daughters of the community.
