ABEOKUTA– Over 2,000 women across Ogun State have been registered for this year’s edition of the five kilometer “Ogun Women Run” in Abeokuta, the State capital.
This, according to organisers will also include a certain 65-year-old woman, Aduke Omidiji.
Organized by Brussels Sports Management Limited annually for adult girls and women in the state, the race is expected to further creates bonding and encourage healthy living among the female gender.
Breiding newsmen in Abeokuta on Friday, the Chief Executive Office (CEO) of Brussels Sports Management, Seyi Johnson, added that the race was expanded this year due to its acceptability among women.
He revealed that the winner of the race will go home with 500,000 ( Five Hundred Thousand Naira), while the first and second runner-ups will receive N300,000 ( Three hundred thousand) and N200 (Two Hundred Thousand naira) respectively.
Meanwhile, the Race Director, Ebidowei Oweifie, disclosed that all participants will go home with a medal, adding that the goal is to make running for healthy living a lifestyle among the women folks.
“The real runners will go home with top prizes, while we have about 600 fun runners who have registered for the race will also go home with gifts as well.
“The race is for bonding and promoting healthy living. It is to encourage our women to make it a lifestyle”, he said.
The race is expected to kick off by 8am at Sapon area of Abeokuta metropolis, through Isale igbehin, GTBank road, NNPC roundabout and terminates at the MKO Abiola stadium, Kuto.
