ABEOKUTA– The national leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) have insisted that the management of the Royal Institute of Health Technology in Ifo, Ogun State, must recall their students posted for Siwes or risk facing students’ uprising.
The students’ bodies had alleged that the institute violated the Federal and Ogun State governments’ order on the closure of schools by mobilising students for the compulsory Siwes programme.
They alleged further that the management of the school reopened the institute and issued Siwes letters, dated, Monday, June 1 to students, deploying them for the Siwes programme.
This, according to NAOSS and NANS is a total violation and disobedience to the governments’ ban on all schools’ activities.
The students’ bodies in a statement, jointly signed by the NANS National Sec. Gen, Comrade Faruk Umar and the National President of NAOSS, Comrade Gbemileke Ogunronmbi in Abeokuta on Saturday, insisted that the proprietor of the institute must be arrested and prosecuted for violating the governments’ order.
The statement reads, “NANS has had interface with the students and they expressed their displeasure over the situation. They are worried about the danger and risk the school is exposing them to.
“Inasmuch as the Federal government and the Ogun State governments’ have placed ban on the activities of all schools, if not for wickedness and fraudulent reasons, we expect the Royal Institute of Health Technology to also suspend all their activities.
“Even the government-owned College of Health Science Technology and other schools obeyed the governments’ directive and shutdown their schools and suspended all their schools’ activities.
“These schools also supposed to mobilise their students for IT and Siwes but they didn’t because they didn’t want to expose their students to risk of contracting the deadly Coronavirus.
“IT and Siwes are not for excursion purposes, they are part of the requirements for the award of certificates.
“The leadership of NAOSS and NANS have vowed to fight this battle until justice is served. We are prepared and ready to pursue this to a logical conclusion. We will not rest until we see that government punished the proprietor and use the institute as a scape goat to others,” the statement concluded.
