Where Are The Generators Powering Abeokuta-Sagamu Interchange Expressway Streetlights

ABEOKUTA — Virtually all the generating sets used to power the street lights along the Abeokuta -Sagamu interchange expressway have varnished from all it’s sub stations, The News Ville can authoritatively confirm

A thorough assessment by our correspondent on Tuesday indicated that darkness has since returned to the ever busy expressway, which linked the gateway state to other neighboring states and the country.

Right from the NNPC junction in Abeokuta, to the Sagamu interchange, along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway was in total darkness when our correspondent drove around 7:30pm.

The once commuter’s delight fitted with street light and illuminating the road at night is fast becoming a death trap, kidnappers favorite spots barely just two years of re-commissioning.

Racall that the rehabilitated road and street lights was re-commissioned by then President, Muhammadu Buhari GCFR in 2022, when he visited Ogun state

Governor Abiodun had said the rehabilitation and commissioning of the road was part of his administration fulfilment of campaign Promises to develop road infrastructure across the state.

The Abeokuta-Sagamu interchange expressway is of course a major gateway to the state, as it’s corridor also boasted of numerous industries, just like the Agbara axis.

A commuter, Sodiq Ojurongbe wrote on his facebook page, “I don’t actually do this, but looking at how the Dapo Abiodun-led government celebrated the street lights on the Abeokuta-Sagamu express way, one need to ask questions

“I remembered there were lot of videos released by the Abiodun’s media team of several prominent people and other tagged as “strangers” commending the governor for lighting up the Sagamu-Abeokuta express way.

“Even when many of us have different opinions about government using generators to power the street lights, we still commended the governor for lighting up the road.

“I am one of the people that passed through that road a lot in the night, I have observed for sometimes now that the street lights have stopped working. From Kobape to interchange, not even a ‘single’ street light is working… Why that?

“Why will such widely celebrated projects just stopped working all of a sudden?

“Where are those people that were doing videos up and down about the street light? All the Mikano bought to power the street light, what is going to happen to them? Is this another waste of our resources”?

It is however sadden that a project, so celebrated with much funfare, with the state resources and even attracted the number citizen of the country will go moribund in less than 2 years of commissioning.

Some of the poles are either being knocked down in a accident, or have been taken away by hoodlums who have pested on it owing to non-utilisation

As at the time of filing this report, no government officials were ready to talk on the issue.
