ABEOKUTA– The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Ogun State Chapter Thursday rose from it’s emergency Congress to ask for speedy assent to the Sports Commission and Trust Fund bills before the state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.
The association expressed concern about the state of Limbo that the Ogun State Sports Commission bill and the Sports trust fund bill has been since the State House of Assembly passed the bills, adding that the state Governor Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun should assent to the bills.
In a Communiqué issued at the end of the congress held at the Association’s Secretariat at the MKO Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, it also commended the Federal Government for lifting the ban on contact sports in the country and urged stakeholders to ensure that all COVID-19 protocols are put in place.
The Congress also called on the Nigeria Football Federation to distribute the palliatives from the world Football Governing body, FIFA as soon as the body receives the money.
The congress also urged the League clubs in Ogun State to hit the ground running immediately with preparations as the ban on contact sports has been lifted by the FG, the congress admonished the clubs to also put in place COVID-19 protocols as well as conduct Covid-19 tests for players and officials.
The congress advised the Ogun State Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Sports Council to work hands in glove so as to ensure that the state athletes get the best of preparation ahead of the 2020 National Sports Festival tagged Edo 2020 which is still likely to go ahead this year.
The 3 man Communiqué drafting committee includes, Lekan Yinusa as the Chairman, Bayo Adegboyega as the Secretary while Hakeem Adegbenro as member.
