ABEOKUTA–A prominent youth advocate and legal practitioner in Ogun State, Amb. Habeeb Whyte, has urged young people across the state to critically evaluate political promises ahead of the 2027 general elections by demanding concrete implementation plans and measurable outcomes.
Whyte made the call in an open letter titled “Yayi’s Blueprint and Our Generation: The Promises Are Important, But the Questions We Ask Are Even More Important,” following his review of The Progressive YAYI, a policy document outlining the developmental agenda of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi).
The open letter scrutinized the ambitious policy document, which spans economic transformation, education, agriculture, youth empowerment, digital innovation, tourism, the creative economy, infrastructure, and inclusive governance.
While acknowledging the document’s headline proposal to train at least 100,000 youths in high-demand digital skills such as coding, design, data analysis, and digital marketing, Whyte emphasized that ambitious figures alone do not equate to genuine empowerment.
He challenged young people across the state to look beyond political headlines and interrogate the operational mechanics of the proposed 100,000 youth empowerment scheme before giving it total backing.
“100,000 youths is a significant proposal, but numbers alone do not constitute empowerment,” Whyte stated, raising critical questions regarding the timeline, selection criteria, and equitable distribution of opportunities across Ogun State’s three senatorial districts.
The youth advocate further stressed that special considerations must be built into the implementation framework to ensure rural youths and marginalized demographics are not left behind due to technological barriers.
Beyond skill acquisition, Whyte raised concerns about post-training pathways, insisting that youth interventions must extend far past the ceremonial presentation of certificates.
He queried whether the proposed initiative includes structured pipelines connecting beneficiaries directly to gainful employment, seed capital, venture financing, business incubation, and global market opportunities.
According to him, the ultimate metric of success for any youth-centric policy lies in its long-term economic impact—specifically how many participants transition into self-sustaining entrepreneurs and net job creators.
On educational reform, the legal practitioner backed the proposed integration of digital technologies and curriculum modernization, but urged policymakers to align classroom learning strictly with the realities of the future global economy.
Turning to agriculture, Whyte highlighted opportunities within the proposed Ogun Farm Mechanisation Programme, noting that young people should view the sector through the lens of modern agritech, processing, logistics, and commodity export rather than traditional farming.
He similarly identified significant potential in the creative and border-town commercial economies, urging Ogun youths to position themselves as direct owners, investors, and service providers within emerging sectors rather than passive consumers.
Addressing political engagement, Whyte called for a structural transition from routine election-era “youth mobilization” to direct “youth participation” in policymaking, governance, budgeting, and performance tracking.
He concluded by reminding young citizens that asking tough questions of political leaders is an essential civic duty, stressing, “Accountability is not hostility. As young people whose future is directly affected by these policies, we have a responsibility to ask informed questions and demand clear answers.”
