ABEOKUTA– Unknown gunmen, suspected to be cultist have murdered an All Progressives Congress (APC) councillorship candidate for the forthcoming Local government election.
The incident which occured at Jide Jones, Oke Ilewo area of Abeokuta, the state capital was confirmed by the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola
The victim, Adeyinka Adeleke was reportedly shot several times at close range, before his head smashed and was left dead before the assailants left the scene.
The police spokesperson, in a statement made available newsmen stated that the suspects arrived at the scene with an unregistered Toyota Corolla sport car, armed with pump action shotgun and a pistol at about 12:30pm.
“The assailants opened fire, killed the 40 year-old Adeyinka Adeleke, who was left dead at the scene before the perpetrators fled to an unknown location
” Another individual, Adeyinka Adesanya requested the body for burial without seeking a doctor’s examination or autopsy.
“Photos of the scene have been taken, and normalcy has been restored.
” Investigation into the gruesome killing has commenced and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects”, the statement reads
