ABEOKUTA– The senator representing Ogun West, Senator Olamilekan Solomon Adeola has facilitated the participation of students from Anglican Grammar School, Ilaro to a virtual robotics competition in Mexico
The school, which was the only school selected in Nigeria and Africa joined over 60 other teams from across the world including host country Mexico, Colombia, Philippines and others to pitch their works named Yewabiotic on the international scene.
The senator who had earlier donated a well well-equipped Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) Centre to the school, said it was aimed at catapulting the school to global stage.
“As a senator representing Ogun West, I have facilitated the establishment of at least 4 fully equipped ICT Centres across my senatorial district, trained thousands in certified ICT programmes as well as constructed fifteen 12-Classroom Blocks with libraries and staff rooms as part of my educational legislative agenda for my people. With the right environment and infrastructure our people can compete with the rest of the modern world”, he added
The ICT centre established over a year ago had led to the students making significant strides in the field of robotics and technology and had rovided a platform for them to join the global trend in tetechnology.
The Trainer of the students, Lekan Akinode, an alumnus of the school and a senior lecturer at the Department of Computer Science, Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro explained that the teams participation in the competition is a testament to the impact of the ICT lab facilitated by Senator Adeola.
“The lab has not only provided students with access to modern technology but also fostered a culture of innovation and collaboration leading to the competition.
“The students’ registration fees for the competition were generously sponsored by the Valerio Foundation, a Mexico-based technology non- governmental organization”, he said
The team, made up A and B includes, Ambrose Benedict Zion, Utibe Feranmi Destiny and Dada Whitney Adetolani competing Bumperpot Robotics category while Team B is made up of Alade Daniel Oluwatosin, Okekeye Adebayo Abraham and Anyadioha Maria-Consolata Nzubechukwu competed in Randomap Robotics category.
The results and award of prices of the competition which took place over the weekend is being awaited at a later date.
