ABEOKUTA– Woke Sorunke, popularly known as ‘MC Murphy’, an On Air Personality (OAP), based in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital has launched a new musical album with a call to end all violence against women in the society.
Speaking with Newsmen in Abeokuta Tuesday, the popular radio presenter said the album was informed by the socio-political issues in the society.
According to ‘MC Murphy’, the album titled, “Mr Jiggi” would be released on the stables of Olageospatial Global Investment Company (OGIC) entertainment.
The five-track album is coming few months after the scuffle between MC Murphy and popular Fuji music star, Wasiu Ayinde KWAM 1.
But, the popular radio presenter and compere said, he had put the issue between him and K1 behind him following the intervention of the Olu of Itori in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, Oba Abdulfatai Akorede Akamo and other notable Nigerians.
MC Murphy who disclosed that, his last album, titled: “Say no to violence in Ogun State” was dropped seven years ago noted that there was need for the society to stand against gender based violence.
He described the high rate of brutality against women as worrisome, saying, “In the album, I have songs where I gave strong advice to the men on how to take care of their women and their homes.
“The album talks about the brutality of women. Now a days, you find women being physically, psychologically and sexually abused.
“Women are being violated. There are stories all over the country of women being brutalised and abused. I felt this is getting too much and this should be addressed with a view to putting an end to violence against women.
“So, I have a love song called, ‘Ma ba ja’ and there is another called ‘My darling’ which address gender based violence and how women should be treated with love and care.
“My last album was dropped seven years ago. I was a musician before venturing into broadcasting. I am a versatile person, I play all my roles well.
“My last album was titled: ‘say no to violence in Ogun State’ and since then, I have been working on radio stations, attending shows and I have no time to sit down but this time around, I just have to come out for people to know that MC Murphy is a versatile entertainer.
“There are socio-political messages in the album. For instance, I have a track titled, ‘Enu Oyin’ which talks about the political situation in the country. How politicians give voters pea nuts to get their votes but at the end of the day, the politicians disappoints them”.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of OGIC, Engr. Olajide Fasina described the album as a body of work with socio-political conscious messages which would bring about the desired change in the society.
Fasina said his label was committed to discovering and developing new up and coming artistes with the view of building their talents and developing the music industry.
In his words, “This is an opportunity for us to revitalise the talents in the country. We believe with MC Murphy coming out with this album, he will encourage the teeming youths through his songs.
“I have listened to the five tracks, the album talks about the issues in our society, it also talk about the political landscape where MC Murphy talks about our politicians when they want to contest, they make all sorts of promises, but when they get into power, they begin to change the story and the dividends of democracy will elude the masses that voted them into power.
“There are messages in the album that need to be passed across to the politicians and the electorate. Politicians should be able to fulfil their campaign promises. It is the appropriate time to release the album.
“With this, MC Murphy will be able to help other youths that want to achieve stardom that has been very impossible for them due to the challenges they face”.
