Onpetu of Ijeru Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oba Sunday Oladapo Oyediran, Lagbami Osekun III has called on Oyo State government to restructure the traditional institution in the state which was clumsy and not well defined.
The monarch revealed that the non restructuring of the traditional institution over a long period has given rooms for unnecessary bickering and litigations across the institution in the state.
Oba Oyediran disclosed this during his 20th Coronation Anniversary as the royal father in Ijeru Kingdom, Ogbomosho South local government area, Oyo State held at the Methodist school field, Arowomole, Ogbomosho on Saturday, December 18th, 2019.
The coronation anniversary was a big event as dignitaries across the country graced the occasion. Among were representative of Governor Abiodun Seyi Makinde of Oyo State; former governor Adebayo Alao Akala; the Olubadan of Ibadan; and other royal fathers from Ogun, Kwara, Osun States as well as bigwigs in politics, captains of industries, and amongst.
Oba Oyediran further acknowledged that as at today, there was no known law regulating the issue of chieftaincies, unless they go back to the 1978 law.
He noted: “Let us take a critical look at the following: the last inquiry into the issue of prescribed authority popularly known as Oloko inquiry was done in 1993-1996, apart from the unilateral revocation of the gazette of the white paper by one time governor of Oyo State, the report itself is obsolete and calls for a review.
“Secondly, the present structure of the Council of Obas and Chiefs in the state is not standing on any foundation or law as the white paper on which 1998 gazette is standing is destroyed. i.e. gazette Vol.27 no 26 of 1996. I am calling on your Excellency to look into this.”
In another development, His Royal Majesty urged the state government to please revise and re-access her relationship with the Ijeru land, and her people.
“Though, we are generally being addressed as Ogbomosho, but you know that we are in Ogbomosho South local government area which comprises majorly Onpetu’s domain,” he said.
