Ogun Rep. Candidate Mulls Independent Candidacy For Democratic Development

ABEOKUTA– A candidate of Allied People’s Movement (APM) in Ogun state for the forthcoming general elections, Hon. Micky Kazzim has stated that the passage of independent candidacy will further strengthen democracy and people’s representation in the country.

Kazzim stated this at an interactive session with newsmen at his residence in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital weekend.

The former lawmaker at the 8th assembly added that independent candidates devoid of political structures, god-fatherism, but widely accepted by the people will better enshrine democratic values and developments, unlike what is obtainable now.

“Some of us, if elected will fight for the passage of independent candidacy. This is the only way things can get better in the country.

“Imagine a candidate without a political party, no god-father of some sort, but the people wants him. He will better deliver the dividend of democracy than what we have now. You are answerable to the people alone.

“Gone are those days where people think it’s one party that can do it. The 2023 general elections will show us that it is about the candidates and not the parties.

“It’s a pity that we don’t have independent candidacy in Nigeria. By the grace of God, if elected into the 10th assembly, we will fight for it.

“If we are able to get that, you don’t need to be a member of any political party before you can serve your people. Look at United Kingdom, you have an Member of Parliament (MP) that is representing a county without a party.

“If the candidate is credible and he is without a party, people will still vote for him. Most times, these people can even perform better than someone that came out under the umbrella of a political party”, he added

He therefore called on the citizens to use the window of opportunity provided by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to get their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs), saying that it is the only weapon to readdress any challenges facing the country at the moment.
