IKENNE–CHAIRMANSHIP aspirants in the forthcoming council election in Ikenne Local Council Area of Ogun State have appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun to dismiss the kangaroo primary election conducted by some leaders in the council.
In a petition sent to the governor and jointly signed by Abiodun Osibodu, Ayomide Ogunmoye, Elias Obadina and Olawale Gisanrin, they described the actions of the party leaders as dishonorable and shameful, which is capable of polarising the party in the state.
“In our capacity as Ikenne LG Chairmanship aspirants – in the coming council’s election, who are committed to the enthronement of rule of law, public accountability and transparency as evident in your Excellency’s government.
“We are compelled to draw your attention to the humiliating conducts of leaders in our LG, as they began the process of adopting a consensus candidate on not just a wrong footing, but disgracefully and impetuously by collectively singling out an aspirant, among several others and holding clandestine meetings with him, before stomping the election ground together to announce their ‘candidate’ the winner.”
The petitioner said favoured aspirant- Jamiu Mohammed Asimi, apart from being the most decorated with political appointments, coveting one office after the other to himself for about two decades in a row, he possibly might be the least academically qualified, the least loved by the electorates, and the most attached to the apron springs of the most hated and emperoric leader in the LG, Kayode Sodiyan.
“We hereby implore Your Excellency to sample public opinion on these distrustful leaders and their ‘candidates’ and also to dismiss the kangaroo election they conducted, while instructing all aspirants to go for the option given by the party – direct primary election.”
