ABEOKUTA– The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, has appealed to the state governor, Dapo Abiodun to fulfil his promises to the council as the year 2023 winds down.
This form part of the council communique at the end of its monthly congress held at the Council’s secretariat at Iwe Iroyin Hall, Oke Ilewo Abeokuta, made available to newsmen by the Council’s Secretary, Bunmi Adigun.
The council reminded the governor of his promises to it by commencing renovation of Osoba Hall at the Council’s Oke-Ilewo Secretariat, construction of modern event centre at Union’s permanent site, as well as allocation and release of land for the first Ogun Journalists Estate as his administration plans for the 2024 fiscal year and the appointments of two of its members as Special Assistants.
Recall that the governor had promised to appoint two members of the council as Special Assistants in his administration when he visited the secretariat. The two slots was approved for Comrade James Sowole (This Day Newspaper) and Comrade Kazeem Olowe (TVC) by the Congress.
The congress also commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for the peace in the state, especially during the March 18th Governorship poll, tribunal sittings and eventual judgement, the outcome of the Appeal court judgement, and the Governor’s magnanimity in victory.
Part of the communique also reads, “The union expressed sadness over the death of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State after a protracted battle with prostate cancer. The congress therefore condole with Governor Dapo Abiodun on the sad incident, describing Arakunrin Akeredolu as Fighter of Democracy.
“As the year 2023 winds down, the council appreciated all it’s supporters both individuals and corporate bodies who had assisted the council and its affiliate associations during the year.
“The union charged members to conduct themselves as worthy professionals in carrying out their duties; it also demanded decent treatment of journalists in the course of discharging their lawful duty.
“The union commended the immediate past Nigerian Ambassador to United Kingdom, Sarafa Tunji-Ishola, for his promise to build a new news room to be named after late Professor Lai Oso.
“The union also commended Former Youth and Sports Commissioner Chief Bukola Olopade for his promise to donate a Kia Rio saloon car to the Council”.
The communique was chaired by Comrade Seyi Ipadeola of Root FM, with Saheed Adeola of Fresh FM as Secretary, while, Idris Oderinde as member.
