ABEOKUTA–Culinary expect, Ogunyemi Opemipo has called on the federal government to intensify efforts at combating hunger, while strengthening food security across the country.
Opemipo stated this while briefing newsmen in Abeokuta, in preparation for the 2025 Food Festival, scheduled to hold in the Ogun state capital on December 13.
He added that Nigeria’s battle against hunger requires strategic investment in large-scale food production and improved road infrastructure to ease the movement of farm produce nationwide.
Opemipo, a co-organiser of the food festival noted that while the festival is a celebration of food, culture, and community, it also serves as a civic reminder of the growing need to make healthy and affordable meals accessible to all Nigerians.
“Our own way of fighting hunger and pushing food security in Nigeria, not just in Abeokuta or Ogun State, is by making good and affordable food available to people. Last year’s edition demonstrated the power of food in uniting communities.
“The 2025 Food Festival Abeokuta will be held on December 13th, at St Anns Primary School, Oke-Ilewo promising an unforgettable experience while spotlighting the urgent need for national action on hunger and food security.
“This year’s theme was Taste the Culture, it places a strong emphasis on showcasing local cuisine while promoting healthier eating habits and awareness about nutrition”, he said
Meanwhile, the lead Organiser, Ayanpole Ibraheem announced that more than 50 food vendors will participate, offering a wide range of traditional dishes, modern street food, and innovative recipes.
The event, Ayanpomle stressed, will also feature live music, games, eating competitions, and pop-up activities designed to engage families, students, and visitors.
He also revealed a partnership with FaztOrder, which will serve as the official logistics sponsor, managing food delivery and vendor operations throughout the festival.
“For us, food is more than just something we eat; it’s what brings people together. It tells our story, and it keeps us healthy and happy,” Opemipo noted.
