ABEOKUTA– In what looks like a transactional policing, personnels of the Ogun state Police command, Zone 2 Oke-Ilewo have engaged in illegal raiding of members of the public on Friday.
The raiding which occured at the Panseke area of Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital saw about 20 suspects arrested on the disguise that they are into prostitution and other social vices.
Speaking with The News Ville, one of the victim said she was arrested at about 9:00pm while dropping off from a bike to meet up with her friend at a relaxation spot.
“A friend called me around 8pm to join them at Miami for a Friday hang out, and as I was about dropping from the bike, I was accosted by the police and arrested immediately.
” I asked for my offense, but nobody said anything until I was taken with others to the Zone 2 station. We were then transferred to the Ibara police station while we all passed the night in the cell”, the victim narrates.
When this reporter got to the Zone 2 station on Saturday morning on a fact finding mission, several relatives have besieged the station for ‘settlements’ for the release of their loved ones.
Bail, as it was called by the police ranged from N20,000 and N40,000 just as some who had no relatives were still bargaining as at the time of writing the report.
Another relatives while speaking with our report on condition of anonymity said, “I have just gone to the GTbank opposite to withdraw about N20,000 to pay them for the release of my sister.
” I sent her to get me something at Panseke market and didn’t hear from her again until this morning. I was even afraid she has been kidnapped or something worst has happened to her”, he said
Efforts to reach the State spokesperson, CSP Omolola Oduntola for comment proof abortive as her call line was unreachable.
