ABEOKUTA–The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta FUNAAB Professor Prof. Kolawole Salako charged Nigerian Students not to give up and develop themselves positively for the betterment of the nation.
Salako gave the charge during the South west leadership summit held at the school premises Abeokuta.
He stressed that the future belongs to the students adding that they shouldn’t give up in terms of the development of their institution.
“Getting involve in crime ,wanting to make quick money and all that is not good ,work for what ever you have ,earn it with dignity.
“Am happy that the student organising is about the leadership training and investors and that really show that even the youth are concern about positive development of growth and am really that our youth are making it”.
On his parts, the convener of the summit, who is also the student leader of the institution, Oloyede Michael said the primary aims of organising the summit was to equiped student leaders on how to develop themselves in mounting the helms of affairs.
Oloyede said that the present state of the country has negatively affected the psychology of youths, who are future leaders and this has affected the quality of representation in different strata.
His words” It is our desire to have versatile and knowledgeable leaders, with the requisite skill-set that will drive development of the country in areas of Leadership and Entrepreneurship.
“Leaders who will be able to put Nigeria on the global map as a developed country. Ergo, there is a need to create an avenue for this essential leadership and entrepreneurship skills to be impacted into the future leaders of this great country; taking it one step at a time by starting with student leaders in tertiary institutions in the South Western region of Nigeria and God willing, we will extend our tentacles thereafter.
“The program will focus on impacting skills in Leadership, Technology and Entrepreneurship to the present student leaders in South West in order to succeed in all endevours politics, business, entrepreneurship, community leadership and in various careers they may choose”
He explained further that the Leadership Summit is organized to build better leaders of Nigeria in the area of quality, competence and polish the entrepreneurial skill set of student leaders and making them to be responsible in achieving their goals and adding values to life at large.
“Over-time, it has been observed that Students’ Union leaders, who by extension become the leaders at several strata of the public and private sectors of the Nation have little or virtually no understanding of the rudiments of an ideal leadership setup, its ethics and dispensation
“Are not well-equipped ideologically and technocratically in the area of service delivery as leaders.
“Have little managerial and entrepreneurial acumen which render them to deep-suffering moving from pillar to post after graduation before getting their hands laid on something. What it does is, it contributes largely to the unemployment rate, in the country, and other social problems.
“The program is targeted at changing the leadership orientation of over 60 tertiary institutions in South West, Nigeria which is also aimed at producing over 2000 students that are qualified and competent to lead the country and drive global developmental growth, who are fully equipped with knowledge and tools of modern day leadership and Entrepreneurship capabilities.
“The Objectives of the program is to to impact global leadership skills that drives the Nation’s growth and development.
” To enhance the mental health of our youth and equipping them on what leadership entails
” To establish entrepreneurship, enhance human capacity development and resource management skills in student leaders.
“To expose student leaders to tools and platforms that are essential for participatory and effective leadership.
“To increase the sensitivity of student leaders to their role in community development and Nation building” he affairmed.
