In pursuance of the mandate of the state governor to revamp all general hospitals in the state and in preparation for the start of AyadeCare Health Insurance Scheme in April, the Cross River State Commissioner for Health, Dr Betta Edu who has paid a one day visit to the General Hospital, Ogoja.
Dr. Edu’s visit to the Hospital makes it the second time in one week, showing her determination to get the hospital back on its feet, With a desire to do more and to sanitize the hospital system.
she used the opportunity to have an intense meeting with all the staff of the General Hospital Ogoja after carrying out a routine inspection of the hospital mapping out various units and wards to undergo complete renovation and overhauling.
In her words, “Cross Riverians are expecting a lot from us especially in the health sector as our job is one that requires care, attention, dedication and commitment to service”.
“If you know me you will know I love hard work, transparency and dedication to service and if you do this, you automatically becomes my best friend”
“I must express my dissatisfaction, this is my second visit within 7days to General Hospital Ogoja, the second largest hospital in the State, so we must live up to expectations. I will visit regularly till this hospital delivers quality health care service to the people in the North”
She warned that late coming, absenteeism, under the table charges for patient, theft of hospital properties and poor attitude to patients care etc will not be tolerated any more as heavy sanction awaits defaulters.
The commissioner assures the staff that more hands will be added to help reduce the work load, stating how passionate and determined the Government of Sen. Prof Ben Ayade is to take the health sector to a new height evident by the numerous ongoing renovations of secondary facilities across the State.
The Commissioner also carried out a Corona virus sensitization, provided protocol for management and prevention as well as mobilized them to sensitize the communities around.
Reacting, the Medical Superintendent thanked the Health Commissioner for making out time in her tight schedule to visit the hospital twice in a week as he promised to ensure that all staff sits up to offer the best of health care services to the people of Ogoja and everyone who needs medical attention from the hospital.
He appreciated her for picking up bills of patients with serious cases and those who couldn’t afford medical fee calling her a ‘God sent’ when she speedily intervened in the critical issue of a deaf and dumped lady who had severe accident on her way to the Hospital to put to bed.
“With bruises all over her face and body, the Health Commissioner took responsibilities of her bill making a financial support for both mother and child’s welfare while she requested for a list of all the Hospital challenges to ensure speedy intervention and overhauling by His Excellency” the superintendent said
