In a bid to cushion the effect of the imminent total lockdown in the state, the caretaker committee chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government, Mr Ayo Shomide has distributed cash and food items to residents of the local government.
Speaking with journalists during the distribution at the Local government secretariat at Ake, the chairman stated that the guesture is for the people to know how important they are to his administration.
In his words, ” this is just a kind gesture for the people of Abeokuta South local government to know how important they are to us”
“We open this food bank. We receive support from notable people within Abeokuta South local government which include the Alake Of Egba Land , Balogun Of Egba Lañd, Seriki Of Egba land, Chief Dr Majekodunmi and a lot of people donate to us”
“And in line with this, we just want to give out to our people because we know it’s not going to be easy for them to sit at home at this period without having anything to eat”
“In the process while we have been going out to sensitise them, they have been asking us what they are going to eat. The State government have tried and we are ready to give out the relief material in terms of food to the citizens of Ogun State in general which Abeokuta South local government is going to be a beneficiary of this programme by the state government”
“But before this would commence tomorrow, we just want to prove to our peopleamd show them that we are ready and concern about them.That is why Abeokuta South Local government have decided to complement what the State government is doing” he said
He however emphasized that the distribution is along party lines as such it does not matter the party the beneficiaries belong to in Ogun State.
“We are doing it per household , we are giving to families, not to party, not to society and not to association , we are giving it to family household within Ogun State” he concludes
