ABEOKUTA– As Nigeria set to mark it’s 60th independent anniversary, the National President of Bible Society of Nigeria, Rev. Olubunmi Banwo on Saturday said the only solution to the country’s myraid of problems is to return to God Almighty.
Banwo disclosed this while speaking to Journalists at a bible quiz organised in Abeokuta, to mark the 10th year remembrance of Late Apostle Dr. Samon Olusoji Bamgbose.
He insisted that the country has not gained so much in terms of developments since Independence.
“We are not at a point where we can say we are truly a nation. We are far from that. Our hope is just on God, believing that when we have life, we have hope. Sincerely, with whatever parameter you can use to measure whether we have not gained so much since Independence, there’s no much to show for”
“The only solution is to retrace our path back to God who made us that’s the only thing we can do,” the President stressed.
In similar vein, the organiser of the quiz, Prof. Olufemi David Bamgbose regretted that the security problem that threatens the country’s peace and tranquility are as a result of lack of standardised and quality education, adding that Nigeria is far from the eldorado in terms of education as the sector is in a deplorable condition.
In his comparison, there has been a paradigm shift from the good old condition of the educational system to the current urgly condition, adding that urgent step must be taken to revive it.
Bangbose however call on all stakeholders to come on board to support the federal government’s effort to boost the educational system.
He argued that the rehabilitation of the educational system is not mainly the duty of the government but also the stakeholders.
“We are far from the eldorado in terms of education in Nigeria because if you look at our educational system and what we use to have u will find out that there is a whole lot of vacuum. We must let all stake holders know that education cannot be exclusive responsible of the government along, ”
“If we must improve and boost our education system we must bring all stakeholders on board to contribute. Parents, cooperations, everybody must contribute to the development of education in Nigeria” he said.
